Vicky's B & B
Vickey Ntozini started her B
& B in 1999. She is the pioneer of Township B & B's, and has become a
well-known figure both locally and internationally.
Advertinsing
is by word of mouth, and business has blossomed over the past years. Most
guests are foreign as locals unfortunately, still do not venture out to
meet their fellow countymen.
Vicky lives with her husband and
childrenin site C, Khayelitsha, and has opened her home to visitors. There
is always a steady stream of tourists in and out of the Ntozini
household.
She serves dinner and breakfast. Evening entertainment
is either across the road at the Waterfront Tavern (the original
Waterfront) having a beer, playing a game of pool, dancing or talking to
residents; being shown around by the children of the area or sitting inside
watching TV and chatting to the family.
Vicky has said that she
could not carry on with this venture without the support of her entire
community who also benefit. Visitors send school books, stationery,
clothes, sweets and other donations for the children. Vicky enlists the
help of neighbours when she is busy, and also arranges outings for
children (on condition their school reports are good) to Robben Island or
Table Mountain, for example.
Not only does she have guests staying
over, but she also caters for various functions. Big groups have had her
cater for breakfasts, lunches and dinners which are held elsewhere in
Khayelitsha.
Her husband helps with transporting guests to and
from the house, and the children get involved in entertaining them. As
such it has become a family-run business, and the warmth and hospitality
is something that needs to be experienced first hand. Make sure you put it
high on your list of to-do's when visiting Cape Town, or more specifically
Kahyelitsha.
